Today i went shopping and came back with a pink kid's fleece blanket. :) I've cut it up to fit the size of the guinea pig's hutch (well i cut it in half and the two separate pieces of fleece were stitched up together by me! To make it extra thick.:(|)) I can't wait to put it into their hutch! :)) Is there anything else i need to do before i put it in their cage? It's 100% polyester if that helps...;) xx

i used news paper under the fleece to soak up the wee but now i use.....washable incontinence pads which i got off ebay 3 for 29 pound including delivery,,yes they are used but they have been washed and are in brill condition and are just for the guineas and not my kids:(|) ,,i chose these has i used puppy training pads which i found very good so decided to buy these which have had good reviews

Wash the fleece before you put it in with the pigs, and don't use fabric softener! New fleece often doesn't wick at all. Sometimes it gets a few washes to get it working!

You can try the wicking by putting a bit of water on the fleece to see if it wicks through.

Sorry what do you mean by wicks? And why does it have to be washed before it goes in the hutch? :) xx

You probably know this already but just in case. Give it a wash with no fabric conditioner, I've heard 3 times is the magic number for the best pee-absorption :(|):(|):(|)

You've said already...

Make sure that you have something under the fleece that soaks up all the urine, preferably something more than just newspapers as they will hold only a fairly small amount of liquid.

wicking means that it pulls the wet stuff through the fleece to whatever absorbant material you have under it. Otherwise the wee just sits on top of it, like it does on a wooly duffel (at least for a while... ;) )

I think a towel is what a lot of people use, I've never used fleece but I've heard towels is good to use underneath.
