Hello,
I have been searching to see if I can find answers about bedding for piggies but I am having no success! Apologies if this has been asked before.

We are about to get two guinea pigs and have a c&c cage with fleece liners all ready to go. I am not sure what I am supposed to do for beds for the piggies? Do I buy the fleece hidey holes with changeable pads? Do I need to put hay in them or is that just if you use a different type of bedding? Will I need 2 or just 1?

Apologies if I sound like I know nothing! I am new to this and I want to look after the guinea pigs as well as I can.

Thanks in advance!

Don’t worry about asking questions!
Fleece hideys are a good idea for indoor piggies. You can use wooden ones as well if you want to. You won’t need to fill them with hay. A lot of people with indoor piggies, put the hay in a tray and they will climb in it and eat the hay

You will need two of all items - two beds, two food bowls, two bottles etc. To stop them fighting over things.

If you are having Male piggies, then it is essential to have two of everything. It is also important, that all hideys have two entrances. You don’t want one piggy being cornered in a hidey.

Thank you so much for replying . That is really, really helpful. How often would the hideys need to be washed do you think?

I don’t have indoor piggies, mine live in a shed so I don’t tend to use much fleece (only really on the floor in their playpen), but the fleece things I do use gets washed about every 3-4 days, but checked several times a day for any dampness and changed our sooner if necessary.

I wash mine once a week as they have removable pads which I change every couple of days.

They also love cardboard boxes with holes cut in them. My girls have different hideys but when I put a cardboard box in with a fleecy pad underneath they all fight to sleep in there.

You have been so much help. Thank you. I really appreciate it 🙂

That is a great tip. Thank you.

Cardboard boxes as hideys are perfect..we have a couple of furry beds also for the winter and cover part of the enclosure with a fleecy blanket. We have a lot of boxes so cheap and chewable! The three ladies have mostly been sleeping in the hay trays, as it has been 15c in the kitchen..minus -2 outdoors..The ladies c&c is correx with layers of newspaper, towels, pet pads and fleece for the floor.
