hi, i have two piggies and at the moment i am using newspaper to line their whole bed and then covering it with sawdust, and putting straw in where they sleep. but with this everything seems to be running dun very fast and its quite costly.

I woiuld like to find a beeding that will soak up their pee but that is cheap, easy to access and also that is not alot of bother when it comes to cleaning out.

dus anyone have any suggestions or what beeding they prefare to use or think would be suitable for me that i could try out?

Lois :)

Hi there, did you really mean saw dust or wood shavings? I wouldn't use dust.

It's down to personal preference and piggy reference. I use Aubiose and put newspaper underneath and then have a softer area for their second floor. Works on soaking up fluids really well.

Have a look at the thread below.

Everyone finds different bedding works for them, and all have different preferances. Ive been through lots of bedding types, heres my thoughts. (at the moment i use hay and fleece in the C&C and occationally vetbed)

- Hay - cheap, soft but some piggies soil it quickly
- Woodshavings - cheapish but not soft, known to cause respiratory irritation, skin irritation and can get up boars bits
- Straw - quite cheap, has been known to cause poke injuries (never had a problem myself)
- Fleece - soft, reusable and easy to clean, is expensive to start with and you need to wash
- Vetbed - soft, v absorbant great for recumant/unwell pigs, is expensive and needs constant poo picking and washing
- Carefresh - really absorbant, but expensive.

If you have a shredder, try shredded newspaper with hay. (We put it on top of sheets of newspaper). It's easy to lift out and clean - just roll up the sheets of newspaper!
