One of my guinea pigs cages is soaking by the next day of having cleaned him out.

I was wondering what bedding everyone used?

I have used everything - woodshavings, fleece and vet bed. We are currently using carefresh, and shredded paper under that. Anything we have used just gets as wet as the thing before. We have bought him about 10 different water bottles to see if it reduces any dripping, but no such luck. Dexter does drink alot as well (and i mean ALOT! lol)

He's getting a full cage clean out everyday (Which itself is costing us a fortune). My other 2 boys cages are never near as bad as his and get cleaned every few days (spot cleaned everyday).

I feel so sorry for the little guy

Any suggestions?

How big is his cage?
Is he playing with his water bottle? Some piggies like to play with their bottle, making the cage soaking wet.
You could try put a bird feeder cup under the bottle to catch the dripping. Make sure to secure it to the cage, other wise he's be able to dump it.

If it's mostly water and wee that's causing the problem go back to fleece for a bit and try using 2 or 3 pieces of good strong kitchen roll folded up - go around the cage and press down on the wet patches with it - it dries it pretty quick - as does a hairdryer ( although I think the K.roll works best tbh). Also try Lissie's suggestion in conjunction with that and maybe putting a puppy pad under the fleece where he tends to wee/play with his water bottle. You may find this stops the wet from spreading further afield. It's worth a try anyway. :)

Thanks. :)

I'm going to give the bird feeder a try and see if it makes a difference.

We use kitchen roll in their wee houses as they seem just to use it as a toilet and we put kitchen roll underneath the carefresh.

If the bird feeder fails, i'll try the throws again

Try disposable pampers changing mats where it's wet, then put shavings or fleece on top or newspaper, the change mats are like a baby nappy where it soaks the wee away and is dry on top, it's worked for me :)

I find sometime the news paper is wetter then others depending on what I've fed them, although Parsley who is on vetbed and cleaned out daily, is very often wet. He has an awful habbit of spilling half his water down his mouth, and not actually drinking it mallethead so his neck and his paper and soaked.

Are you sure it's water from his water bottle and not pee? If it's pee and alot wetter than your other cages I'd want to pop him along to the vets with a sample for them to test.

Drinking and urinating alot can be a sign of a few illnesses. I'd want to rule them out as well as tackling the bedding issue.

I think its a bit of both. He drinks loads which means he is peeing more.

I'm going to get him checked out again. He's been checked before and they said everything was fine.

Maybe try the pampers changing mats, its a good idea :)

I find the pampers change mats have doubled my time, then using the cage liner with a matress protector has doubled it again! Its fab.
