I use newspaper with hay on top in their hutch and all around the shed floor (they have 6ft by 5ft shed floor). It works well but it uses up so much hay and it is getting more expensive towards the winter. Would shredded newspaper be ok? My guinea pigs don't often chew on the newspaper we use to line the floor and I want something they can hide in. I have looked at megazorb, fitch and other similar products and they all seem good however they are paper based so would probably need replacing often and I can't find any in local shops. I have practically an unlimited amount of newspaper as I get given it by my Grandparents and many family friends and i also have a shredder. All I need to know is will the ink be safe?

p.s. they will still get hay in all their hides and their hutch but I'm just wondering about the floor space?

Hi,
I personally use Auboise as it's good at absorbing and it's not expensive. I have used lino on the floor then aubiose straight on top as I find the newspaper stops the bedding soaking the pee up and their feet tend to be damp from the newspaper and It's cheaper to use than wood shavings.

Ok, i'll check it out :)

Aubiouse, easibed ... It's all good stuff.
If you have a horsey tack / feed shop near you they often sell cheap bales of bedding and hay.
I get aubiouse for £10 and easibed for £5 for 20 kgs.
