Hi, my boys live in a c and c cage with Fitch bedding. It works really well for us, I spot clean every day and change areas that are wet or soiled daily. Fleece wouldn't be an option for us as our working patterns don't really allow us enough time for the hoovering / washing etc (especially as I spot clean once children are in bed - can't put the Hoover on then) I've got enough Fitch left for a complete clean today and then spot clean for a few days, went to order some more but it's out of stock! Both Amazon and direct are out of stock. - so I need a quick short term replacement.
I've found animal dream pet bedding here it's a bit more expensive but has anyone used it? What is it made of? Do you think it's similar enough to Fitch until that comes back in stock, or am I best using wood for a couple of weeks (not my first choice, but not sure what other options I have!) any suggestions for what I can do gratefully recieved!

Not tried that. Carefresh is great - it is expensive though. What size is your c&c? The largest size bag that I've ever found is sold at Pets at Home and costs £20. That bag would do a 120 commercial cage plus a 5ft x 2ft hutch with possibly a little left over. I've not used it in our c&c as I use fleece in that.
If you are happy to try something other than a paper type bedding, maybe Aubiose or Easibed might work for you until Fitch is back in stock.
Fitch was my bedding of choice until started using Aubiose.

Hi thanks for the reply. It's a 4x2 c and c grid, it takes quite a bit to fill it, but I do give them a good layer!

What is auboise? I've read megazorb is smelly - is it like that?

i used to use Carefresh before fleece and it never smelled, but i did change often.. its nice and soft, never tried anything else sorry x

Thanks, I've found a supplier of auboise about a mile away so I'm going to get some, mix it with the Fitch I've got left and see if that lasts long enough until it's back in stock! Thanks for the advice!
glad you have got it sorted ! nightmare when things are out of stock !

I must admit, I started using Aubiose as I found it more cost effective than Fitch. I still use Fitch in some parts of their cage (Aubiose is a bit prickly and can get stuck in boar bits). I put Aubiose in their hay tray and try to use it as a "base" layer - with fitch on top in other parts of the cage.

I'll think you'll find a combination works.

I like a good thick layer too. You might be able to get away with just one of the large Carefresh bags. I think I worked out once that the smaller bags of it sold by zooplus online worked out slightly cheaper than the larger bag from pets at home but don't rely on my maths!

Aubios doesn't smell so far as I can tell (never tried megazorb). As it draws the moisture down to the bottom (keeping the top layer dry), you might find that it "sticks" a bit to the correx if you put it directly onto that. Newspaper underneath won't work because it disintegrates when it gets wet. I use an old shower curtain underneath it in a plastic commercial cage base and nothing underneath it in the hutch. I do use thick cardboard near the edge of the hutch to stop the Aubiose falling out through the mesh and, cleaning out once a week, I find that the cardboard, where it does get the wee soaked through to it, does seem to manage to stay together enough and not disintegrate so you could perhaps put cardboard underneath if you are keen to preserve your correx in pristine condition! If you don't use correx, so long as your base is waterproof it should be ok with Aubiose.

Well I went to the equestrian centre and they didn't have any aubiose in stock but he is going to order it for me tomorrow morning and it will be there Wednesday. I've got enough Fitch until then anyway, so plan to do a mixture - aubiose on the bottom with Fitch on top. Seems more cost effective too! Will see how the boys like it!
