I used to house my pigs on sawdust but its always getting stuck up the piggies boy birs and making oscars skin dry - not good! So ive moved them onto fleece and towels for the millionth time ever but as always its not working out. I only have two pigs but they soak the fleece and towels through by night, me having changed tgem first thing, so I'm having to do q load of washing a day too and the wee smell is stinking my house out! What can I use for them?

well - it depends on how big your setup.my 4 GP uses approx 8m2 and I washing vet beds once in 4 days - but change some of them twice a day.So you need to have 0.5 square meter per pig per day.If you give them big area you will find they not go toilet everywhere.I have some areas in my setup where I remove dropping sometimes and not wash vet bed in washing machine for months as they not use it as toilet this particular area.

I've tried fleece too and its not for me, I always end up going back to newspaper, shavings-just a light sprinkle and hay and it works just fine for me. My girls are in a 6x4 c&c and I do a full clean twice a week.
The only down side s that I have to rely on people for newspapers but I have a routine of them giving them to me now-we use loads because we have an outdoor double story hutch (shed at the mo) and need newspaper for that too.

I did have fleecy sacks for a long time but have just got rid of them and put in an igloo and a wooden house because they were just siting on top of the sacks and peeing on them. They seem very happy with the set up and so am I. :)

I am another who tried fleeces and didn't get on with them. There is only two of us in the house and whilst we wanted to make sure the piggies had fresh fleeces, we were putting the washing machine on daily just for two small fleeces which was becoming expensive in electricity (as we washed them at a high temperature) and water whilst we would only really put washing on for us every 3 days or so.

We use newspapers and woodshavings, plus hay. Our piggies tend to have particular places where they will wee - corners mainly. So we know to put more shavings and hay there. They poo indiscriminately, and have no real favourite place, although more collect at the corners. We purchased them some toilets but then tend to like to sit in them rather than do their business :))

What we plan to do is when the C&C cage is fully set up, there will be a fleecy bit up top that they can go to if they want to sit up and rest. Like a chill out room. It'll be a small space and we can just replace the fleeces daily and wash them when needed rather than having to wash them urgently for their bedding.
