I don't know what I should do- I have a 2x5 C&C cage for both of my boars with a layer of fleece, then newspaper, then a shower curtain. Is this enough? And does the shower curtain work like some say it does?

Newspaper is not that absorbent. You might have to replace them more often. Have you thought of using towels or cotton pads under the fleece?
Shower curtain is just used for protecting your floor, or whatever your cage is on. It should be okay.

I think one layer of fleece works better, as the fleece need to allow liquid to drain through to the towels underneath.
Do you have a Uhaul store near you? Many people use Uhaul denim furniture pads and swear by them. I use two layers of the uhaul pads under fleece.
