I am just about to treat all my piggys for running lice. I really want to prevent this happening again. I have seen on here that woodchips are not a favourite to put piggys on so I would like to get rid of all mine and change to fleece. I have to very large 2 story hutches that are outside. At the moment my piggys are on woodchips and have hay for bedding, I am worried that this is where the lice came from. What I would like to do is use fleece on the floors of the hutches and fleece blankets in their beds. Then I would get some hay racks so the piggys still have plenty of hay to eat but cant catch anything form it. What if anything would I put under the fleece on the floor or would just the fleece be enough? Do you think this idea is ok or not a good idea? Any advice would be great.

Don't you think whatever nasties are in the hay could get on the piggies from the hayyracks? It sounds like you should look into a new hay farmer, if this is how you get your hay.

I have indoor pigs so can't say anything about fleece in hutches, but most people seem to use vetbed outside.

I was going to get the hay form a pet shop you know the ones that are wrapped in plastic. I just thought it would be less likely to have any nasty surprises in it. It would work out much more expensive but it would be just for them to eat not for bedding. I dont know if it is any better being wrapped, Maybe I'm just hoping it is!

There are lots of types of hay that will be safe and work out a lot cheaper than pet-shop baggies. I would love to try "dust free hay", but they don't ship outside the UK...

Farm hay can be very different too, right now I've got hay I'm very happy with!
