So I started using sawdust in the boys cage, then when I got the c&c cage i started using fleece which was on 1 layer of towels but i found this smelt quickly. I've currently been using a towel where they pee and poo, 1 layer of puppy pads throughout their c&c with a nice layer of fitch which I've found does last a week before it smells however because they popcorn and run around a lot the fitch and hay from their food is gettig everywhere in the room!
Does anyone know if I put a towel with puppy pads on and then a wicked fleece, will it smell as bad as it was without the puppy pads- I can't remember if I wicked the fleece last time which may be why they smell so much. I can't sit in their cage with them with fitch- because their cage is so big I can't reach them to stroke or attempt to pick them up so when they had fleece I used to sit with them and they'd come to me :)

I use mattress protectors and fleece, works a treat :)
Then inbetween washes I use bed mats (kinda like a puppy pad but bigger) and fleece it works but just doesnt last as long.

I find towels stink too much.

By a mattress protector do you mean like a waterproof one that young children have for bed wets or the fabric ones, to protect the condition of the mattress?
How long do you leave between washes?

In my opinion...it dosnt need to be a waterproof one...i have actually found they can smell more as the urine sits rather than soaks through. I find a normal material matress protector dose the job just fine soaks the urine up through the fleece fine. But i have used both and both work.
I wash mine every 4 days or so. But with a bigger cage like your c&c you may be ble to go 5-6days ....depending on how much wee the boys do haha....if they have a wee area ...put down litter trays....really helps with urine oder!

They seem to do it mainly in the corners and especially in the pigloo(maybe that's why it's called a pigLOO lol. Do you think it would work putting a shallow litter tray down with their pigloo on? Obviously with some hay in it?

I use incontinence bed pads under fleece (washable ones) and find it makes it last about a week.

I use puppy pads under doubled up well wicked fleece. I do a daily sweep up of the poops and change the fleecy snuggle beds and the fleece liners about every 5 days. I find longer than that and they start to smell of wee.

This is really food for thought! I am very happy with megazorb but if I can reduce my landfill that would be better for the environment

Hemp beddings especially compost really quickly so they're an option if fleece really doesnt work :-) some other beddings do too, fleece isnt necessarily any better than bedding I guess the electricity and detergents have an impact too, and a cost associated that can be higher than beddings.

Mine last 7 days :) just hoover up the poos every night :)
I just use quilted mattress protectors from tesco, the onea that you put on the bed to protect from dirt etc. They work brilliantly.
Just make sure to get one that is 100% cotton cover and then the inside is 100% polypropylene :)
