Okay so I just got Beans out for a cuddle and she just ran so after 2 minutes I had to put her back in her cage because otherwise she would jump off the sofa and break a leg. She just runs off. Doesn't even stay on me for a minute  She used to be really cuddly and cwtchy and I don't know what to do. I feel like my 50% trust with her went back down to 0..

Is she having an off day? It is hot. Maybe she's too hot for a cwtch! If she is in season maybe this is why she acted out of the ordinary! My piggies don't always want lap time. They climb off and hide under their pink pig! Here is Betsy doing just that!

I have had my piggies for a year and they normally love cuddles and lap time. Try her again tomorrow. I'm sure she doesn't hate you. Sometimes you just have to do the things that they want to do.

Heads up! Beans is now feeling confident enough to tell you how she feels. That means that she has actually started to trust you. You just have to build it up from there. It is not a quick process. And yes, I am regularly there with newly adopted skittish piggies of mine.

Please keep in mind that guinea pigs are not natural born cuddly pets. so far, her acquiescence has come from a survival instinct.

Please take the time to read through this thread. Start at the beginning and make friends with her through the bars again. How To Understand Guinea Pig Instincts And Speak Piggy Body Language

I tried the I want to be friends body language method earlier... and Toast just looked at me is as if to say "hahaha what" :p

I've just ordered a large guinea pig pen thingymabob. You know the one I'm on about right? The pens you take outside to put them in. And it's got a nice floor so you can use it indoors too. Now they can run off my lap without hurting themselves.

When I first got my two sows they used to look like they loved lap time too but I think they were just scared of me and freezing up but now they don't mind letting me know when they don't like lap time. One of mine has only started to like a cuddle and will climb up on my chest for one but only when she feels like it but the other flat out doesn't like lap time and will stick around for the treat and a scratch under her chin and then bolt. It really is a slooooooow process bonding with them as it has to be on their terms although other people seem to have a knack for it....tell me your secret lol.

My squeak is like this, sometimes she loves me other times she acts like I'm her worst enemy. I've never managed to put my finger on why, to be honest she's just a grumpy cow sometimes :xd:
I'm sure she'll be your best friend again soon and snuggle up with you X

Yep  I hope so. My piggie pen thingy arrives tomorrow so then they can get down without risking my big basset hound (a dog that can catch and kill a rabbit) or injury and they can come up to me and hopefully feel safer :P

Jingle used to tooth chatter like mad when on my lap but much to my amazement and delight she now sits quietly and allows strokies and even brushing with a soft brush. It takes TIME. Mistletoe just freezes and waits to be put back in their cage!

It has taken 14 months of patience with Betsy to get her to relax during lap time. She has always loved strokies and purrs constantly but has always been on her guard. Tonight though I had this...

The guinea pig pen arrives today, hopefully today's treat time will be on my lap
