I suspect my boar has a uti and will be going to the vets tomorrow. He has had this before and I imagine I will be prescribed baytril as his antibiotic. This is usually prescribed twice a day for 7 days. My question is can it be given only once a day instead of two. I am due to go away for one night this coming Sunday, back the next mid morning. I will be able to give my boy what I imagine (if prescribed for 7 days) will be the last days dose in the morning on the Sunday before I leave.

You can give baytril once a day but as piggies have a fast metabolism, they are often prescribed medication to be given twice a day but you could ask your vet if it would be ok to give him his medication once per day

I've had baytril prescribed before in high doses for 5 days and lower for 7 or 10 so be prepared for that possibility. It's always been twice a day. Explain your planned trip to your vet and check, but if you're staring on Monday you should have knocked out the infection by next Sunday - if it works and the bacteria are not resistant you should see him improving in a couple of days so after that it's just completing the course. If a dose gets skipped they might suggest you extend the course for a few more days after you return just to make sure. Don't forget his painkiller too! Good luck little fella x
