Hello.
My youngest pig is on baytril for a UTI. Shes on 0.5ml twice a day but the vet didnt say how long to leave the dosages apart. Ive heard its 12 hours between each dosage but that means id have to wake up at 5am to give her, her first dosage and then give her the 2nd 5pm and wait 2 hours to feed the veg and sprinkle some probiotic on top of it.

Hi

The ideal dosage interval for twice daily applied medication is between 10-14 hours, as is reasonable around your daily life but an 8 hours gap is still acceptable if that is what you can practically achieve and still get some unbroken sleep yourself. Ideal would be 12 hours but only if that is sustainable for you in your daily life. Anything less than 6 hours should be skipped and continued with the next regular dosage.

For three times a day you aim at an 6-10 hours interval as is practical to achieve a rough 8 hours rhythm. 4-5 hours is the shortest possible gap in a pinch. After that, please skip a missed dosage and continue with the regular cycle. These rules also work human medication. :)

If in any doubt about dosages or missed intervals, please double-check with your vet clinic and follow their advice.

Please give the probiotic 1 hour before the antibiotic (the American way) if that helps you. Both ways are equally effective.

If you run into digestive trouble that surpasses the normal slightly softer poos, consider giving additionally poo soup (i.e. live healthy gut microbiome transfer) from a healthy companion not on antibiotics themselves.
