Hi there! My 3 year-old boar just came down with a URI. I know I caught it early, but wanted him to been seen ASAP. I spent hours yesterday calling around and finally found someone to take him today (I just moved to this state, so that didn't help!). It's a HUGE teaching hospital - the reviews online were not the best, but I had no choice. I also have an appointment with the local vet for Friday, so I figured, worse case, he can get started on an antibiotic now and I can still take him to see the local vet on Friday. This boar has never had a URI but was treated with Baytril years ago when his brother had one. They were given .35ml then.
He now weighs: 1.27 kilograms
He was prescribed 20mg/ml oral suspension at .6ml every 12 hours.
I'm trying every calculator online but I just can't seem to figure this out. I know he weighs more than before, but does this sound right?
The most concerning part was when the doctor called me (we had to wait in the parking lot due to Covid) and asked what amount of Baytril he had in the past. I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night, let alone what ml dose I gave my pig 2 years ago. All I could say was that I know it was twice a day for 14 days. When I got home I checked the amount and realized it was a lot higher! Looking around it seems like .4ml is common - but I have no idea what strength they were prescribed.
Any thoughts would be SO appreciated! Thanks in advance!
