Hello all!

Today I noticed that my piggie has some discoloration on his white fur due to pee. I was wondering if I should bathe him, or leave it be me? i read that guinea pigs should hardly get baths, only if it’s absolutely necessary.

Thank you!

Is there a lot of pee, or a little?
Generally, guinea pigs are excellent at grooming themselves.
Please refer to this guide: Bathing (including cleaning grease glands)
You should only really bath them when it's necessary, for example, if the hair around their grease glands is matted or, in long-haired guinea pigs, if other parts of their hair are matted (or when medically necessary).
Is your piggy long-haired or short-haired?

Maybe try soaking a soft cloth in warm water and gently rubbing the area.
I believe that shampoos usually won't remove urine stains from white fur.
I hope that this helps! :)

I have bathed Luna twice and she's 2 years old. She is white haired and sometimes gets yellow on her. I managed to clean her up in the bath, but now I find there's no point and to just leave her. She just gets mucky again.

I have a long haired piggie. I bath her regularly like this. 20190725_182404.webp
This is another piggie but better picture. Warm water and very mild soap e.g. Johnson's baby shampoo.
If you piggie keeps wetting herself you will need to see a vet as could be a urine prob.
