Hi,

When you bathe a guinea pig where they have a cage mate or more does the bathing affect their behaviour in the sense that their scent has been washed off each other? Do they recognise each other with the scent gone for a while?inbreeding

They still recognise each other, no problem. But they will do their best to recreate their group scent afterwards!

Please do not bathe very young guinea pigs, unless it is as part of a vet prescribed medical treatment. We recommend ca. 3-4 month of age at the earliest. You can give them a bum wipe or if they are very dirty, a bum bath.

I bath my boys together each time so they both smell "strange" and they've never been bothere once they're warm and dry and the slave is bringing veggies :-)

I only ask because I think I will have to bath them with the malaseb again as Titch has bad dandruff with a bare patch and their fur seems to be coming out easily. Last time I washed them they were fighting after a couple of days and I wondered if it was their lack of scent. They have had the Xeno for the last two sessions week apart and still have hair loss.

I just feel sooo mean bathing them.
