hi all!

just wondering if i can get some advice on bathing my girls? they have both had flaky skin for a number of months now after getting the all clear from mites at the vets. was told its nothing to worry about but the girls seem irritated in the rump area which i believe is related. i have looked into gorgeous guineas shampoo and going to try the manuka and neem shampoo and coco neem melt but am worried about the bathing side of things. whats the best way to do it?

i was thinking on the floor in a washing up bowl, luke warm water all over their bodies (avoiding head to prevent going in eyes, mouth, nose etc) then applying the shampoo and wash off with water ive cupped in my hand?

has anyone ever used these products (more so the coco neem melt, as this has to be left on for 20 minutes I'm slightly worried at hows best to do this?!)

any advice welcome!

sorry guys just seen the bathing thread! so apologies for that, my only real
question now is how do i do the treatment for 20 minutes?!

Hi

Can you please specify which 20 minutes treatment you are referring to? Are you planning to use a medicated dip with a specifically stated waiting period on the package before the rinse or just a normal shampoo where you just shampoo and immediately rinse?

its the neem gel by gorgeous guineas! apply, leave on for 20 minutes then wash with shampoo, but i know for a fact della will not sit still for that long!

I'm certain that gorgeous guineas have considered that and made it non toxic, if you're not sure maybe their customer service will advise?

Maybe try just the shampoo for now and save the leave in treatment for smaller areas?

Brillo has a problem area on his back that I treat about every six months with Coco and Neem melt and Manuka and Neem shampoo. I do it in the bath. I put a large bath towel in the bath to cover the bottom so he can't slip if walking around, damp his hair in the area of the dry patch, work melt in well to the area that needs treating. I leave Brillo in bath with some veggie treats and a plastic stool to sit under, after 20 mins rinse melt off, shampoo well, it usually needs two shampoo sessions, the melt is very greasy!

WARNING - this stuff stinks.

I did consult a vet about the dry skin before I tried this to check what the skin condition was. I've never seen Brillo try to lick it and I'd be surprised if he wanted to put his nose near it considering the smell.

I once bought Neem for use in my traditional Indian Head Massage. Not one person agreed to use it after smelling it. I’ve no doubt that no self respecting piggy would put their nose near it!

It stinks the house out but it does lift Brillo's dry skin nicely, it's like human babies cradle cap. Luckily we only need to do it once or twice a year! I have wondered if coconut oil would do it, it would be a lot cheaper!

i was considering this, especially as it will be their first bath, i think the melt then x2 shampoo will be a bit much!

although they have flakey skin everywhere and not just small areas unfortunately x
