He has gone puffy, and sounds like he is coughing up fluid! :( he is eating but only when its put infront of him, and he is still drinking. I no he is depressed, due to a female pig and babies living above him, could this cause the symptoms, I'm hoping its not another vet trip!

He definitely sounds ill. Do you have any of the Baytril left over from his last URI? I am trying to consider what may tide him over until morning, otherwise I would advise a trip to the emergency vet (they may be little use at times, but cases like this, antibiotics tend to be best started ASAP). For now, may be a relapse of the URI, but I recall discussions about his heart, can explain why certain pigs have repeated respiratory infections and it is something that comes to mind when I think of Basil's history.

Good he is still eating something, but the warning sign is there that he probably won't for much longer, be prepared to syringe feed. I hope he doesn't worsen overnight, fingers crossed you can get him to the vets in the morning.

he did the same the other week for like 3 days and then he was fine :/ and now he is doing it again :/ and no don't have any antibiotics left :/ can't get him to the vet untill tomoz evening/friday.

I'm worried that he is still coughing up fluid from when i origanally syringe him water, and it went to his lungs not stomach :/ x

Very concerning, if what you have said is accurate then IMO a diuretic is important. And it makes a much stronger case for him being a heart pig, to be up and down, have days where he is ok and days where he is not, fluid in lungs and/or repeated URIs - it's all classic signs.

I would personally be trying to get to the vet ASAP at least for this diuretic and some antibiotics (cover the URI possibility), otherwise I would at least phone the emergency vet and ask for their suggestions.

mmm stuck really :( I will try get hold of my mum, she works nights so is in bed tomorrow during the day, but when I took him to the vets for his first URI the vet said his heart was fine :/ surly he would of diagnosed it then :/ x

i would ring emergency vet too for advice, better to be safe than sorry hon x

sending vibes for Basil x

Many heart pigs sound fine on stethoscope. I had one sow, Tuppence, I am absolutely sure she was a heart pig. She has so many of the classic symptoms, but because she sounded fine on steth at both a vet and CCT, I could not get the help for her.

My second heart pig, I had niggling suspicions prior to her actual diagnosis but was mollified by hearing it was ok, but the suspicions surfaced when new symptoms developed and - thankfully, yes thankfully - CCT picked up on a muffled sounding heart (fluid around the heart). Gwenny's response to the diuretics (initial improvement, but fluid returning despite daily doses) provided the basic diagnosis that she was a heart pig.

I know only too well the frustration and difficulty of suspecting something and not being listened to.

For now though, with you and Basil, have to think short term as in the here and now as this is what is most important, and trying to get him over this relapse in condition, and for me I still think diuretic and antibiotics is the way to go.

yhh! he is not reli snuffly like before tho, but they may come in time :/ will see what my mum says x

spoke to my mum, she said she will see what she can do tomoz.

but she also said, if he does have a heart condition we will have to see what to do for the best, cos she can't aford to keep going back for medicine all the time :( and I don't want to see him struggling the rest of his life :/
