Hi! Theres a tornado warning right now and i had to bring my guinea pigs with me to the basement. I'm pretty sure theirs radon in the basement, is radon dangourous for guinea pigs? Its a unfinished basement with lots of bugs. Is it dangorous for them to be here?

Wow, I don't know anything about tornadoes, good luck staying safe!

My childhood piggies shared a hutch and pen with lots of British insects, which didn't seem to harm them.

Could you leave the basement door open to reduce the concentration of radon, or is that not possible with a tornado? Isn't radon more of a long term cancer risk, than an instant killer.. ? Hopefully you'll all be OK 😊

No i cant open it during tornado warnings since its always really windy and stormy. Thankfully the warning stopped for now but ever since i moved here(pretty recently) theres been a few tornado warnings and ive always been scared of the radon for my guinea pig(now guinea pigs). Yes i think thats the effect radon has on humans but I'm not sure about with guinea pigs. Thanks!

I would say the risk from the tornado is probably greater than the basement. Sending love, hopefully you will all be okay 💕

With not knowing about the effect of the gas I'd still bring my piggies into the basement if it was me. Toto flying around in the Wizard of Oz comes to mind! I think you've done the right thing. Stay safe!

Thank you!

Stay safe and take your piggies with you. Hopefully just a few hours won't do too much damage. Leaving them exposed to a tornado is a deadlier risk on balance.
