Hello everyone I’m new to the forum and I'm looking for some advise please.... we lost one of our piggies over a week ago which sadly left her companion lonely, so we made the decision to get a 5 month old and they have been getting on great but I have noticed the youngster is barbering our other piggy (4 years old) and her hair is now quite short due to it, she is a long haired piggy so it looks quite drastic. Unfortunately she has also caught an old abscess wound and has caused it to bleed. They have been living together for a week now with no other problems what would you all do in this situation? TIA

Barbering can happen for several different reasons or no reason - one of reasons can be stress. A new piggy in a new environment is a stressful situation so it could be the reason but it might be wise to have a vet check done of both piggies in case there is something medical going on

Thank you for your reply. Both piggies have had a vet check just on Monday and all fine with both of them. I’m worried incase it is causing any stress on the piggy been barbered as when she is telling the younger pig to stop she’s not listening and continues to pull and chew on her, she has already had the stress of loosing her sister companion I don’t want this stressing her too.

Hi!

Please read our barbering link. Overenthusiastic social barbering by a younger new piggy is not at all uncommon and will settle down on its own. It is not painful to the older piggy (who would put a stop to it if it really was as they are the leader).
You can find it explained with examples in the barbering guide: Barbering ( Eating Hair)
