Bamboo

Hi just wondered if anyone feeds their piggies on bamboo in the UK.
I've heard they love it .If si where do you get it,or is it a case of growing your own and feeding them from your own personal supply.

Do you mean the leaves or the cane part?

I'm not sure,but I heard that leaves and baby shoots can be fed to them.

Mine love sweet bamboo, it's just the stems. I get it from Amazon.

I sometimes give mine a sprig of bamboo upside down in the cage as they have to work to get to each leaf. Would never give the stems though.
The problem is there are so many kinds of bamboo, some of which are toxic and it is extremely hard to identify which one you have growing. I now know, from the chance that I unknowingly took when I first got guinea pigs, that the two patches of bamboo I have growing are both safe for my pigs. The problem is it would be quite difficult to identify which species you have.

Most of my piggies are doing really well thanks.The mum who lost two babies is still not great ,but she is inside now having lots of TLC and is on supplements to help her gain weight .

Having read the above about the different types of bamboo,am going to give it a miss, at least until I know a lot more about it ,don't want to put my piggies at risk .
