I recently adopted a 4 year old guinea pig. They warned me beforehand that she is very very shy. So far, she's doing very well, she eats hay all day, drinks water, eats her vegetables and will take treats from our hands. Her poop is healthy and she's a solid weight (possibly a little chunky lol) but she is beginning to have her hair thinning on her left hip. Is she grooming too much there because of stress? I don't believe there are mites or anything like that she is very clean and her hair is soft. I just feel bad if she is so stressed when she seems so happy at the same time and wheeks at me throughout the day.

You’re better off getting her to the vet. It’s always a good idea with a new piggy. You can’t see mites so can’t discount them.

Is she alone or living with another? Please see about getting her a friend soon. They’re very social animals and shouldn’t live alone. Your best way is a rescue where she can go dating.

She is alone, the rescue said she does not do well with others. I've called two vets so far, one that is not accepting new patients and one that told me "cage pets don't need check ups", very frustrating, I will keep trying to get her in.

Please don’t take the rescue’s advise. It’s more likely the case she hasn’t found anyone she likes enough to live with. Another 2+ years is a long time to live alone. How long was she there before you took her in? And what was her previous living arrangements?

Have a look at the vet locator below and see if you can find someone to see her.

She was with the foster family for around two months. I was told they tried to introduce her to a girl while she was there and it did not go well. I don't have much background on her previous home but seeing how scared she is of everything it doesn't seem good. It makes me sad because she is so sweet. :(
The closest vet on that forum is an hour and a half from me. I will continue trying to find someone this week.

Definitely do keep trying to find a vet for her. They can lose hair for many reasons including mites, ovarian cysts and a multitude of other reasons so you definitely need to get her seen.
A bond is about finding the right piggy and it can take many many tries to find the right friend for a piggy, particularly if she has a difficult background or is fear aggressive
