Hello! I’d lke to presente Opala, my white female Texel guinea pig!

Yesterday, I noticed and bald spot (missing fur) on her butt. There was also a dark spot near her anus.

Today, I noticed a dark spot on her back, close to her neck.

Does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

She was spayed over three months ago, so it can’t be ovarian cysts.
Only gp with these symptoms, despite living with other 3.
Behaviour-wise, she’s fine. Haven’t noticed itching but I don’t spend a lot of time home nowadays.

Please see a vet for the hair loss, having her checked for potential parasites.
The dark spot near her anus is possibly the grease gland but I can’t see anything clearly on the picture.

It looks like she might be self barbering her hair (chewing it) rather than hair loss as the photos appear to have short hair there instead of completely bald. This can be a sign of discomfort so she does need to see a vet to investigate

Thank you! That’s the plan!
The dark spot is not very much a spot with a clear border. I didn’t know where the grease gland is located, so yeah! It definitely could be the grease gland.

Thank you!

Yep, I was wondering if it could be chewed hair. She lives with a non-neutered male, and he can be quite annoying, so I was wondering if he could be the culprit. The hair seems to have grown a bit overnight.

Update: have been to the vet and we’re doing a fungal test. 20 days for the result. The vet also suggested an ultrasound exam to see if Opala’s kidneys are ok because the adrenal glands can cause a hormonal unbalance, but I decided to first see if it is a fungal problem before undergoing the ultrasound exam.

We’re spraying Merthiolate (Thiomersal CHLORHEXIDINE DIGLYCONATE) 2x/day. Hopefully it’ll be enough, but we might need to use a more specific anti-fungal medicine.

The dark spot on her butt is indeed her grease gland 😂 And it seems that the dark spot on her back/neck is a freckle(?) – skin pigmentation. Will watch to see if it grows. Btw Opala has some black pigmentation on the soles of her feet that grow (she was not born with them)
