I have two boars, around two years old. They are brothers, and live happily together.

I have been on holiday for the last two weeks, and they went to stay with a neighbour. I took their usual hutch round, and their usual food, and she has looked after them several times before so she knows their routine. She also has a piggie of her own so she is a great person to look after them.

I got them back today, and they seemed to be fine. They have been eating well (they are very greedy!) and are behaving normally. But each boy has one small bald patch behind one ear. They don't seem to have any injuries or any other symptoms, just the bald spots.

Any ideas what this could be?

It's normal it helps to aid hearing. :)

All mine have them. More noticable on Sunshine who is an Aby X as his fur falls in a certain way. :)

Every guinea pig has a patch of skin behind each ear which has no hair ... apparently to aid their acute hearing.

Some of my piggies have had dark skin behind one ear and pink skin behind the other, which could be misleading and make it look as though the area behind one ear has no hair.

Is it just behind one ear on each piggy?
If it is only behind one ear, are there are any sores or flaking skin?

I hadn't noticed bald patches before, and I did only notice one patch on each piggie. I'll have another look in the morning and see. Sounds like it might be OK then :)

When I first noticed Sunshines I got spot on as I thought he has mites! lol Just check the fur all over to check for mites, fungal. I'm sure it is just the hearing thing though. :)
