There is a small bald patch on my Guinea pig’s back, he is almost 1 year old. There doesn’t seem to be any mites or scabbing, but the patch is slowly getting larger. He also doesn’t see in distress and is still eating and behaving normally. There is still a handfull of short hairs in the patch, so it isn’t completely bald. What’s going on?

I’m not quite sure whether I can see a V shape in his hair or whether it is literally just the patch of short hair which is the issue.
A V shape can be indicative of mange mites. You will not be able to see mites (they are not visible to the human eye) so you will need a vet to check and rule it out.
If it is just the patch of shorter hair, then it’s possible he may be self barbering. Self barbering can occur for several reasons for one of them is pain and discomfort in an area (which can also be from parasites or an internal pain) so, again, seeing a vet would be a good idea

Good luck at the vets. Hope it gets sorted out soon.

It definitely needs a vet check to test for mange mites and fungal infections. They can be hard to detect without a microscope and need prescription meds to clear them up. I hope you get a clear answer and he soon is back to normal!
