Hi everyone!

I appreciate anyone who will take the time to read and respond to this as soon as they can! I have two girls (butterscotch and mocha) and they live happily and healthily together. I was cleaning their cage (roughly twenty minutes ago) and got distracted with talking to my partner in the process. In the middle of the conversation, Mocha was in a very relaxed position so I decided to give chin scratches and realized that there was a tough/rough spot beside her chin. I did a double take to ensure it wasn’t just wet & crusty fur (because as we all know, abyssinians do get very messy) and I realized that the spot was way too big for it to be just a messy chin. I quickly handed her to my boyfriend to see this (the picture I have attached). She resisted for a bit until I was able to see what I felt. I noticed she has been grooming and scratching herself every so often, but didn’t think anything of it because it just seemed as if she had a little itch. I am so crushed to see this on my baby girl. Despite this, she is doing *everything* as per normal (eating, drinking, going potty, playing with her sister, wheeking at me every time I step in the room, etc). She’s the same Mocha every time I see her, but I’m worried that this is something worse than what I’m thinking. I know most of you aren’t medical professionals, but any advice as to what this is and how to treat it would be absolutely appreciated. Thanks everyone! Much love!

We do not advise home treatments so on that front thrrr is nothing you can do. I would get her checked out by the vet. Do you think the patch was there when you got her?

Hope your girl is all better soon.

I got her about a month ago and I can definitely assure that she did not have that when she was adopted, which is why I’m so curious as to how she got it in the first place. I don’t believe she was bit by sister either because I would believe she would be bleeding as well as scabbing being present. I appreciate the help, just hope it’s something small 🙏🏼

Hi

You can reclaim any vet cost in the USA for a problem appearing and being seen within 30 days (one month) after purchase.

Unfortunately, your problem should be asses by your vet. The balding area around the scar means that this not a fighting wound but could be self-inflicted either due to skin parasites or a fungal infection, which require different treatment.

Under- or mis-treatment can prolong the suffering needlessly and is basically wasted money when you finally see a vet over a much more advanced case. It is false economy.
