Prior to lat topic i did, baileys is definately not pregnant. Though after having them for over a month now they still havent settled around me. I get them out every day, ive them food alot (no complaints then). But even if they are eating they wont let me stroke or handle them. Jd isnt that bad i can hold him and stroke him but when i let him run around on the sette he jus jumps every time i touch him, the dfference with baileys is that i cant touch her at all she does the same thing on the settee but runs up my shoulder when i try to stroke her when I'm holding her. Any ideas why please!! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

They just need to gain your trust. Twinkle was like this for ages I got him in last July and he wouldn't let me pick him up at all. Come March he was fine and allowed me to handle him.

You need plenty of patience, they will come around. :)

just thought id let you know that she aint pregnant, they were just settling into their environment, BUT are having a go at eachother every now and again :(

as for them having a go at each other could just be hormones depending on their age. why not catch one and wrap in a towel so the feel safe and offer treats and gently stroke them whilst talking to them. give it time and patience and they will come around, though some piggies don't like to be touched. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: so try the towel trick and see how you get on, in the wild guinea pigs first instinct is to run as they are at the bottom of the food chain and everyone wants to eat them. so lots of talking, treats and wrap snug as a bug in a rug in a towel O0 good luck O0 keep us posted and welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten:
:smitten: hoping bailey and jd settle down soon O0

My piggies were like this to. I found kneeling by their cage and sort of offering my hand in made them approach me rather than me having to approach them, and after a couple of attempts they began to feel more confident. Try this, but do be patient as it can take a while for them to trust you.

Hey, they have setlled down alot now. They still have a go at eachother sometimes, and wont let me touch them in the cage but that doesnt bother me as they let me stroke them now, just hoping really that they stop having a go.

they won't stop 'having a go' until you seperate them. They are a male and female, and doing what animals do instinctively which is to mate and create offspring. If you're not careful they will indeed suceed in creating offspring. Why don't you either get JD neutered or get them a friend of the same sex each?

if i get him neutered will that stop them going for eachother, it just looks like they're eacother really because he pushes her bum and visa versa, they dont bite eachother or anything though

Yes if you want to continue keeping him with bailey then he should be neutered. You need to find a good vet though, and make sure they know what they're doing

if you don't want JD fixed then take them to a rescue and find them each a friend so that they have a friend each and your 2 piggies will become 4, i mean ask anyone on here they started with 2 piggies and now have half a dozen or more :o :o :oso either JD loses the family jewls or you find them each a friend. O0 good luck. hugs to all of you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

well the reason they could be having a go cos she IS pregnant, she has been getting a bit fat lately so i took her to the vets and he can at least feel 2 maybe 3 well see ay! xx
