Bad Weather 🇨🇦

No we don’t. Dont get me wrong we have cold spells but it’s nothing like you’d face in Canada.

I live in a mild area of the country. The average winter day time temperature here is around 5-6 degrees. We will get freezing nights, frosts, down into -1 or -2 but it’s not for long and it’s not all winter. We may see some snow once a twice in a winter (some winters it’s none at all).

We are having a mild spell at the moment. Today for example it’s going to be 12 degrees today and last nights coldest temp was 10 degrees. It’s going down to 4 degrees overnight early part of next week.

We had a particularly bad spell a few years back called the beast from the east. It was -10 for a week or so.

Make sure you stay safe

:agr: And I'm further north in the UK. As much as we like to complain about the weather, it is nothing in comparison to what you deal with in Canada.

Coldest evening last week was -6c over night, but that freezing spell only last a few days. Now we are back to 11c in the day and 5c overnight (and the rain has returned... that we do get a lot of)! Last year it felt like it rained for 10 months of the year (summer was really wet too) :(

We don't suffer from the same winter extremes but because of that the infrastructure here can't cope with the occasional big freeze so everything is at a standstill.

It amazes me that here in the UK we’re on the same latitude as Canada. Thankfully we benefit from the Gulf Stream whereas you have polar air streams if I recall my geography (happy to be corrected 😂). Your freezing rain sounds really grim 🥶

I'm further north than you, this was last week which is summer weather compared to Canada! 👍

Now that the winds have died down. I would like to thank my neighbours for the garden shed. 2 wheelie bins. An outdoor trampoline. and a 6 month old Yorkshire terrier named patch.

Oh my lord we are dealing with heavy freezing rain in Ottawa, Ontario. So hard on the old dogs trying to walk. Everything is coated! Supposed to continue for hours. Does the U.K get this weather?

It is very rare in the UK but I grew up with freezing rain/black ice every few winters in Switzerland - on top of a hill with some steeper slopes with the secondary and further schools down in the valley. You just trundled into schools or work as and when you could and the roads were safe enough to do so.

We ended up with a very memorable total chaos when freezing rain hit the rush hour in Birmingham/West Midlands UK in 2004 with gritters stuck in the hopeless traffic jam... That was 20 years ago. The UK as a whole doesn't do ice and snow because they don't have it often enough outside of the more mountainous areas. We just end with a few days of chaos whenever winter weather happens as a kind of nasty surprise... You are going to hopefully find it as amusing as I did at the time, @Jelly/Jam .

I don’t suppose you’ve got my big tarpaulin as well have you?
Despite being weighted down it blew away the other night

Keep warm and safe! It looks like a beautiful winters day down here in Cornwall (that’s in toe of the UK, the most westerly part) We rarely get freezing weather and only seen proper snow once since 2012
