As some of you know I had to split my herd of 6 into two trios a few days ago.

Well I've been watching their behaviour closely and have decided to put them back together. Peaches initially started off well, wheeking for her veggies and roaming around. However as the days have gone on I've noticed how she just doesnt enjoy living in close proximity to the other girls. I think shes had a rough past and enjoys her own company and snoozing more than socialising and being active. Shes my oldest girl (although not elderly) and I think she gets irritated with how excitable the younger pigs are.

I've noticed shes reluctant to sleep or relax since being on the floor space of the shed, as Hattie or Dolly would disturb her which made her extremely grumpy. After a long hard think, and taking Amber and Marthas constant interest in getting back to the others into consideration, I've decided to put them back together.

Peaches has her own space in the top of the hutch with pellets, hay, water and most of all her comfy and cosy bed section. The minute they were back together Peaches explored her upstairs penthouse to check for damage. Re arranged the furniture, had a bite to eat then went off for a well deserved snooze.

Martha and Hattie went on a popcorning frenzy, Dolly joined Peaches upstairs and Mabel and Amber went sniffing, exploring, finally settling down in a hay tray together.

Martha and Peaches did encounter one another but there was no tension luckily. Martha doesnt know how to use the ramp so Peaches has peace up there. I felt a sense of relief when they were back together, seeing and hearing them all so content.

Personally I feel that they are happiest this way, and I'm looking forward to giving them all some grass time tomorrow if the weather permits. :)

It's great you have put them back as a herd and also been able to provide a very much needed space for Peaches to get her peace and quiet. Hopefully things will work out this way and they will all be happy :

It can take some jiggling and tweaking within your sow herd until you have found an appropriate solution, but it seems that you have found a way to keep your girls together, but Peaches and Martha away from each other.

Yes and I'm so glad! Peaches' past has caused her to have socialising issues, but now I think I've figured it all out and know what will work best for her and the other pigs. :)

Here they are this afternoon. Scattered them some fresh grass.

So she has her own space when she wants it, and it's a nice area for her. If she has a bit of everything she needs then she may not have to come down and encounter her 'adversary' again, but the ones she gets on with can spend time with her.
I hope it works out well :) x

Thank you!

Yes that's exactly it. I'm also getting her a hay tray for the 'bedroom' area as she loves to snooze in them. They all seem very content :)

You know yourself, just by watching, as you have, the ways that work best for the herd you have, and it does sound like you may have hit the best solution :)

So glad you seem to have worked it out. You have really put their best interests at heart throughout this. Hope peace reigns in the Ayemee piggy hut
