Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

So my usual supplier of Aubiose isn't selling any further unless you specifically order in. Being as I've been away and this is my first full day I'm naturally giving all the fur balls a full check, nail clip and change of bedding but i needed new stuff first.

Well, this is where I became unstuck. They didn't have any aubiose so the only thing I could find was this stuff. I didn't have time to check the review, but blimey it's not cheap.

£12.95 for a 30l bag which is the same price for aubiose in kennel gate.I've used half the bag on 2 hutches let alone 4!

So I thought I would share my experience so far...

Think I'll be sticking with auboise. (excuse the masking tape, Jack has taken to chewing the lino!)

This stuff was one of the reasons I decided to change to fleece. It looked like it'd be very uncomfortable for the piggies to walk on, and it was very difficult to spot clean too. I used what was left of the bag as cat litter.

I used to use it before switching to Carefresh. The boys like it well enough, but it's the sheer weight of the bags that puts me off more than anything. I've found it always lasted well enough, but it definitely wouldn't be my first choice these days. Besides, those 30l bags are designed to ruin your back.

Interesting...since I bought some extra hay trays today, all the piggies are currently enjoying the hay trays and cozy cups etc. definitely not keen on the new flooring - oh well, I was trying not to use wood shavings as an emergency alternative.

personally I always say to myself: praise the first piggie owner who had the great idea of using the fleece! I am not spending a single penny, piggies' feet and hair keep clean, there is no smell at all in my living room and I have already saved a huge amount of money.
Of course fleece would not work outside, but I am not sure because the cats living here in my building, in winter sleep outside into their hideys with fleece cuschions and here the umidity is 100% during the night... cars and roads are totally wet in the morning but the cats are dry.
I would use the fleece even if I had a hutch outside.
