Ok so I’m making a 4x3 c&c cage split in half so each half is 2x3 and I know I’ll need to baby proof my females side since she’s probably pregnant but how old would you say a guinea pig needs to be before baby proofing is not needed? My male is 2ish months old and like 400some grams if I’m remembering correctly at the moment

Baby proofing will be needed until the male is neutered or the female spayed as the male can impregnate the sow at any age. :)

I think we are talking about different things? I’m just wondering how old a guinea pig has to be before baby proofing isn’t needed any more? They are and will stay separated till 6 weeks after he’s neutered in a few months I’m just trying to make sure he will be big enough not to slip through the holes when he’s scared

Ohhh sorry then yes 🤣🤣 I apologize.

I have a three month old boar who is about 750g whose cage was baby proofed when I got him at three and a half weeks. He is quite a big boar and I was thinking of removing the mesh I put over my c&c grids pretty soon, but I think I’ll wait til he’s about six months or after he’s neutered - just to be on the safe side.

Baby proofing should be done generally until the pig(s) are 6 months of age.
