Whenever i take my two new baby pigs away from mum they will start wheeking rearly rearly loud. They are very friendly and fine being held and are less noisy if mum is out too but if you take them out without mum they wheek. I thought this would stop as they get older but they have only got louder. They were 1 week old on saturday and weigh 173g and 180g.
Is it normal for them to wheek when away from mum? (it is very loud)

Not sure but its normal for them to wheek like their life depends on it! Milo is such a wheeker as is Pearl they have competitions to see who can wheek the loudest! :D I wouldn't worry they probably are just wondering what is going on, natural to miss mum I guess, bless them. :)

one of my baby pigs used to wheek like anything when I held her, I think she was a bit scared, and I did read she was calling for mum :'( quite sad really

Yes, it's quite normal for them to wheek that loudly when you take them away from mum. Mine did that until I had to take the boys away at three weeks, the girls stayed and they stopped that loud wheek when they were around six weeks old....they still wheeked but not as deafening.
:D

When Herbal and Biter were babies whenever we tried to hug them Biter would make such a racket it sounded like you were trying to kill her so we always had to get Poppy out as well, Herbal on the otherhand didnt make a sound ::) Biter is still really noisy and wheeks all the time

They probably just don't liek being away from their mom, when Spike was younger he would wheek if I took him away from his cage mate. Maybe wait till their a bit older, or take mum out with them.
