hello,

i am new to the guinea pig world. I am looking at sorting out some decent bedding for my 2 little men pig and pog.

I have a few baby blankets left over from my daughter that are fleece. is this the same as the stuff used?

I was thinking of lining the base with newspaper as its free, then some fleece, a hay pot and a toilet pot with hay in too

then just need to sort out a bed. dont really want hay as it will stick into the fleece and they eat it fast so will just eat their bed :D

do people just use those sleeping bags or is there something else that can go ontop of the fleece that wont stick to bad and they can snuggle into.

ps one more question is horse feed hay the same as the stupidly expensive pets at home stuff?

thanks

baby fleece are ideal hun, i just bought a load from the carboot for mine and have loads so i can use and wash them :)
I buy hay in bails from the local farm its about £5 for a bale

The way fleece work is, it wicks moisture straight through it to a layer beneath. Most people use towels, mattress protectors, or puppy training pads underneath fleece to soak up wee. Lots of people put newspaper under THAT, but you may need another, more absorbent layer too. Neither fleece nor newspaper can absorb much.

As for beds, mine have a snuggly sleeping bag thing, a hammock, a little house, and a nest of fleece scraps. I cycle these through their cage so they don't get bored, along with empty cardboard boxes they hide in, but one's favourite thing is just to stretch out on the hay.

I also buy hay from a local feed store for £5 a bale. With just two pigs it lasts months.

i got lots of baby fleece blankets from matalan for the piggies :) i use fleece with absorbent bed pads underneath, and newspaper under those.

i get hay from the hay for pets site. :)
