Junior Guinea Pig
Wow oh wow had I forgotten how fast and skittish young pigs can be! I lost my piggie Henwin about a month ago and we have recently adopted River so Ginny doesn't get lonely. They get along amazingly well. There's a very strong mother daughter relationship which is so cute to watch! But wow, do I ever need help!
When I got my first girls almost three years ago now, they lived indoors. We've since moved and unfortunately everyone lives outside now. I have tried to handle River from day one - we had to to introduce her to Ginny and she got over it very quickly and will happily munch whilst being held.
My concern is that she's very wriggly and I don't ever remember Ginny or Henwin being like that. Because she is so tiny there's not much to grip on to and she has squirmed out of my hands before to just sit on top on my hand, unsupported. I am so scared she will launch herself off my hand and fall.
I just had her out a minute ago and taking her back I held her close and tight and kept moving her back into a safe position and refused to put her back in the hutch until she calmed down but it is nerve wracking because she could easily jump off.
Any advice in how to deal with her? I give her lots of food when I'm handling, but she can snap so quickly and suddenly ignores the food and starts squirming. I can't believe I've forgotten how to deal with babies, haha.
Thank you x
