Hi all,
I just wanted to write this thread because I know lots of people who are considering changing to Aubiose but are not sure about it. I couldn't see any other threads that simply listed the pros and cons so I though I'd just write this based on my own experience for anyone who needs an extra nudge in their decision either way.

Pros:
It absorbs urine well
It doesn't smell much
It's easy to spot clean
It's quite soft and isn't as prickly as it looks
It is a good insulator
It's quite cheap

Cons:
It is a bit dusty and makes me cough although it doesn't seem to bother the pigs
It gets stuck in piggy bums
The urine gathers at the bottom and can get stuck to the floor so I personally use newspaper underneath the areas where my boys like to wee the most. But you could use other absorbent materials such as puppy pads etc.
It's not any easier to fully clean out than wood shavings
You need to use a deep layer for it to be properly absorbent

This is just what I've found through using it for nearly 3 months. Other people have said different things so of course you should look elsewhere for different views but I have tried to gather together all of mine.

I hope this helps you in some way or another!

PS: I would just like to say a huge thank you to this forum in general and the people on it because without you all would be lost in my knowledge of piggies and wouldn't have discovered Aubiose in the first place! Thanks for all of your support and kindness. Love you guys x

i use aubiose in my hutches and love it.it is absorbent, even with 5 piggies in a 6 foot hutch i only need to clean once a week,i use puppy pads instead of newspaper,i do not get many papers.i agree you need a 2 inch layer of aubiose, but there is no smell even with cleaning once a week.I'm trialling flax at present as a little softer, may use it as a top layer over aubiose.i like megasorb for the litter trays.

I personally wouldn't say the urine filtering down to the lower layer is a con. To me this is a positive because it keeps the upper layer dry for the piggies. I mean yeah it can make cleaning out take a little longer, but the action of the substrate keeping the top dry means you don't have to do said cleanout nearly as often - so you're not really spending more time on it.

It's just that I have found that the Aubiose becomes sticky at the bottom with urine and when it dries it sticks to the floor and damages it. As I said, this is all purely from my experience x

I use hemparade from zooplus in hay trays and find it is really good. Similar to aubiose.

I used Aubiose for a while in my rabbits litter tray. I did find it quite dusty and also had an odd smell. It used to go everywhere as well with it being so lightweight when dry.

I am considering trying it in my piggies litter trays but I think it might end up everywhere.

What flooring does your setup have that the pee/Aubiose clumps actually damages it?

Did you mean damage the hutch? If so, then I can't recommend enough the importance of lining your hutches with lino! Makes it easier to sweep, clean and disinfectant.

I love Aubiose. I use it in my 7x2 everywhere, not just litter trays. I do find it a bit dusty cleaning out etc but it settles and doesn't bother the pigs at all! One 20kg bale lasts me about 5 weeks as I only chuck out the dirty & wet bits but I would get though a tonne if I swapped out all the bedding every week!

My hutch has a plastic flooring already, the aubiose sticks and won't come of so I have to scrape it off which leaves scratch marks.

I have found when the base of aubiose bedding is very wet it does stick to litter trays.i use puppy pads or newspaper as a lining then place aubiose on top,to prevent it sticking to trays and lino.

Exactly! That's what I do too :)
