My 1 year old male guinea pig just had around 3 small guinea pig bites of a hershey’s milk chocolate bar.. I attached a picture of how much he ate. It was around 15 minutes ago and he is acting fine. I googled and it said if it’s a small amount then he should be fine, which it was because i caught it in time. I’ve been encouraging him to drink water and gave him more fresh hay to help digest it. I plan on keeping an eye on him closely tonight. He is his energetic self and eating and playing and interacting with me as normal. About how long would it take for him to show signs of sickness from the chocolate and what would those signs looks like?

I'm not sure, the only food I think a piggy of mine had that he wasn't meant to, was some chocolate mousse, and the piggy lived a good while after it. I don't know whether some react more to things they shouldn't eat.
Does he have access to plenty of hay at all times?
Hope he'll be OK.

Yes he has access to plenty of fresh hay at all times in 3 different spots of his area!

Just keep a close eye on him. If you notice any changes in behaviour/normal habits please contact your vet for further advice.
They have pretty robust, fermentation structured digestive tracts so fingers crossed he should be fine. Just do contact your vet if there are any changes at all.

Please make sure that good quality hay is supplied at all times, ad lib.

Thank you, it’s the next morning and he is still eating drinking and going to the bathroom as normal. He is happy running around and such too. And he does have fresh timothy hay supplied at all times ! 😊
