Hi
Everyone.
My 5 month old Guinea pig decided to eat a hole in his cage liner..1 inch ..took
Him to the vet as hes not pooping. The vet gave him 2 shots and no xray..and said if its in his intestines he cant save him. Does this sound right? I have been a gpig mom for a year and never had any of them eat anything..:( thank you

A few questions to get more info.
What’s the cage liner made of? What was the injection for? When did he stop pooping? Hopefully he didn’t swallow anything. But nonetheless keep an eye on him and see. Poo output is 1-2 days behind.

Guinea pigs will chew anything so you have to be careful what you leave within reach.

Its fleece with plastic in it. I looked at the hole its all the way through.. the 2 shots not sure as my husband took him to the vet as I'm working..he hasnt pooped for a day..

Used cage liners on the others no problem..if the little makes it maybe I should use aspen :(

Why is there plastic in the fleece? Is it the base of the cage he chewed? Or did he chew the fleece as well? I take it this was today he did this? As said poo output is 1-2 days behind so if it’s today he’s not been pooping then you have to look at what happened 1-2 days ago. When did you last weigh him and how has his weight been of recent?

I use water proof dog pee pads for the cage bottoms... it was 2 days ago he ate it and this am only had 2 pig poops in his cage

I would perhaps think about finding him another vet to take a look. I think start weighing him every day at the same time to keep an eye on his eating. If he’s losing weight then you will have to top up with syringe feeds. Hay is the biggest part of their diet and if he’s not eating enough he will lose weight, and not poop.

You have to make sure he has no access to the puppy pads underneath. Does he live alone?
