Is there a certain age that boars could fight at? I'm asking for my Auntie because she's heard of 3 4 month old boars that get on well at the moment but she hasnt had guinea-pigs in about 10 years so I think ideally she'd like guinea-pigs that are a little easier to care for, so she was thinking of getting sows but I've heard of these boars and thought I'd ask here before letting her know about them.

Those boars are coming up to the stroppy phase when their hormones go wild and fights are most likely. Chances are that three boys will have at least one fall-out. Fall-outs are less of a problem with adult boars that have made it past the hormonal age, i.e. that are over a year old or have been paired with a youngster, so you do not have several boars being hit by the big hormones at the same time.

I would recommend that your auntie contacts a rescue near her or comes onto here (rescue-wanted section) to find a suitable group of piggies. Rescues can advise her which piggies will be ideal for her.

Boars are often more laid back and cuddly than sows.

2 of my boars are now a year old and have never had a fight. However my other 2 got into a big fight and were bickering a lot from the age of about 5-6months. They had to be separated.

My boars are just over 3 months old and I have had to separate one because the fights were getting pretty vicious.

I now have 2 together and one on his own but the cages are right next to each other so they still have contact.

Thank you everyone. I think I'm going to suggest to her that she gets 2 sows instead because I don't think she could really have different hutches for them all etc. and they are also for her 2 year old granddaughter to help care for as well and I just generally think it might be better for her to get sows, especially as she hasn't had guinea-pigs for a while.
Thank you for the help :)

Oh no, my two young boars are about that age, I hope they don't start fighting. They're really close though, I really hope they stay that way!

No they won't necessarily, I had 3 brothers together. Two of the group get on really well and snuggle together in the bed but unfortunately the third just didn't seem to be accepted :(

As I have said in my post, it's also worth looking for two adult boars from a rescue, as they are often very friendly and much easier to get "into the swing" with!

Ok thank you, I'll email her a link to some rescues near here

Totally agree, even my boars who are in the teenage stroppy phase are so cuddly, they sit on our laps for ages! The girls are cuddly too but they do wriggle to be put back after 10mins or so!
