Just wanted to share the lesser known options for treating arthritis in a piggy that are working for us
Sally (4) had arthritis diagnosed by xray (in the vets words her knees are very bad!) a couple of months ago. Upon diagnosis she was referred for an intensive course of laser therapy and her metacam upped to 0.2ml (dog) twice daily. Metacam alone didn't make a whole lot of difference but she has recently completed her loading doses of laser therapy twice weekly and been reviewed by the vet. The need for bum baths is reduced, she is walking better and standing on her back legs again. We've just started cartrophen too and her lasers will now be once a week for 3 weeks then every 2-3 weeks, gradually coming further apart. She'll have another 3 cartrophen injections weekly before they also become further apart we are so proud of her she's been such a trooper!
Not every practice has access to a laser (we were referred) but it's not massively expensive and in my opinion very worth looking into.
