Hello everyone,

My boy Bertie has arthritis. He’s about 5 and a half now, and was diagnosed when he was 4. He was prescribed pain relief and glucosamine by an exotic vet, and at the time it made a noticeable improvement. Since this year he’s been struggling more. I’ve been back to the vet and they’ve upped his pain relief (meloxydil for dogs at 0.5ml split twice over the day. I’ve booked him in for a checkup next week with our guinea pig savvy vet. But I wonder if anyone here had experience and if there’s anything else I can do for him. I want to make him as comfortable as possible. He does struggle a little bit with his movement even on the new higher dose.

Thanks in advance.

Meg has arthritis in her spine and she has 0.3ml twice a day so 1ml more than Bertie. As you have noticed Bertie struggling could you ask your vet if you can increase the dose a bit more? Don't increase it without the vet agreeing to it first though.

Thanks, he’s got an appointment next week so I’ll ask then. I’ve booked him in to get a conscious x ray as well to see if his arthritis is spreading.
