Are uris contagious?

My 4 year old guinea pepper kept having breathing difficulties so we took her to the vet last thursday (3 days ago) where the vet confirmed she was showing signs of a respiratory infection but was otherwise in good health. She’s on a course of baytril for a week and is doing very well. She’s stopped hooting and her breathing sounds clearer as well as her nose, she is still sneezing however. My other guinea pig is a year older but is also in good health, should i be worried about her catching it as well? She isn’t showing any symptoms and the vet didn’t say anything about separating them but i wanted to be sure.

They can be. But, it doesn’t necessarily mean your other piggy will show symptoms - the immune system may be able to keep it all in check and be absolutely fine. It’s the same as us - you can be with somebody who has a cold or sickness bug, and never catch it yourself.
You would rightly keep an eye on your other piggy, but don’t worry yourself over it.
There is no need to separate though as by the time one piggy shows symptoms, the other piggy has already been exposed. Separating at this point would be futile and stressful and the stress could well cause a drop in immune system and make the other piggy more susceptible

Thank you for the reply! I hope she’ll be fine then. They also have been having one of the oxbow vit c hay tablets everyday, although i know they aren’t essential as they get veg everyday, but i was given them as a gift and both my guinea pigs seem to really like them. I’m hoping that helps their immune systems
