New Born Pup
Back story:
I’ve had a long journey with my guinea pigs so far and need some health advice. I bought two piggies from petsmart about a month ago. One of them started to seem noticeably sick within a week and a half of having her. She ate, drank but just seemed off (rough coat, sunken eye). We booked a vet appointment for her and her cagemate as soon as I was suspicious, but had to wait about a week to get in. My parents took them while I was in school and the vet gave us little advice, some eye drops, and ring worm preventative. The next day, the sick piggy toppled over in her cage and became non-responsive, but breathing. She was rushed to a speciality emergency clinic, where she was put on oxygen support but passed later that night. The vet, who was every knowledgeable, said it was most likely a serious URI that escalated to pneumonia. I asked if my other pig would catch it as well and she said no necessarily, some guinea pigs react differently.
Problem:
It has been two weeks since my loving pig has died, and I just noticed a small amount of crusting under her cage mates nose. Everything else seems perfectly normal. I adopted two other pigs as well and have noticed one who has a slight whistle when she sniffs the vegetables I hold up to the cage. I am not sure if she has always made this sound. They do not live together as of now, but their cages are set up next to each other and they have come in contact once while in a play pen. I need advice. I don’t want these to lead to death, but I also just spent thousands for my passed pig (initial vet appt, medications that were useless, emergency room fee, hospitalization, oxygen support)
