Bay

They have a pretty small cage, about 36 inches long but they have a huge playpen that is the size of a king size bed and I put them in there everyday. However, they don't like it and just sit in a corner o tries to hide in one of their igloos or their tunnel or under their cuddlecup.

Anyway, when they think *** can see them, they run around like crazy in their cage, Wilma so fast in and out of the igloo, back and forth in the cage and then in so fast in the igloo she hits her head.

Are they happy? Is that why they run around? Or should I be worried?

I love my girls so much, I have bought everything possible for them, and I would buy a bigger cage if I had the room but I don't. That's why they have their playpen, in our backroom. I don't want to have a cage in there because it get's too cold during the winter.

TIA!

i have rescue pigs that are the same. they have a huge our door play area, and as long as the weather is ok, they spend their days in there playing. But, if i go out to look at them, they all scarper back inside their hutches or underneath one of their stools.

i have just had to except, they are not cuddle piggies, and don't enjoy me trying to catch, them and give them hugs. but they must be happy, as they always eat all their food and veg, and when they hear me coming, they sqeak like mad!

Know my boys are totally different. (They came from a loving home, who owner was emigrating) They love to have cuddles, and will come to me for them. i suppose it depend what their history is.

But from what you have said, they enjoy a run around, just not being watched!

They prefer not being watched. I had a girl once who only went up the stairs when she was sure nobody was watching - so I had to keep and ear out to know when I had to collect her from upstairs!

Have you thought of pegging a towel or old bedsheet over your play pen, or at least part of it? many piggies are very wary of open spaces - it's a deeply ingrained instinct, as birds of prey are one of their main predators.

Yeah maybe I should try to put something over the playpen.

They eat all their food and hay, love water, poop tons..talk to me in my lap and to each other..play..but they never squeek when they see me :(

I just want them to be happy. Do you think they are?

I think they are very happy bay! The fact they are running around in their play pen shows they are enjoying themselves. You should be very proud you are making your little piggy lives great!:))

Ours used to dive inside their huts or tunnels when we approached or sat near their run, but now they're much better and whilst they may still sometimes scarper when we approach (they are flight animals after all), they do stay out when we sit near the run. How long have you had them?

We found feeding treats through the bars of the run helped, as they came to associate us with food. We also sat (quietly to begin with) near the run so that they got used to us being there.

I think my girls are doing much better. Yesterday, when daddy(hubby)gave them hay Wilma wheeked out of joy! I hope..I was almost crying.

Tomorrow I will have had them for 2 weeks. They still run into their igloo when anyone comes around their cage but you can tell they feel so much more comfy already!

And I only give them treats when it's lap time so they can see me as the treat lady..lol!
