I think I already know the answer to this, but I just want to make sure they're the happiest pigs they can be. they have a 4"x3" C&C cage with lots of tents and hiding places. They are pretty friendly, but still do the running away thing when I try to catch them. I've had them for 2 years. They get to come out at night for their veggies in the "play room" (a whole extra bedroom) for about an hour 1/2. When I have them on my bed for some mommy time, they just try to escape and go back into their cage. Obviously, they feel safe in their cage. THey seem happy in there and play with one another in the cage and run around, but mostly sleep. I just want to make sure I shouldn't take them out more against their will and carry them around the house and stuff? I just wanna make sure it is ok for time to spend most of their time in their cage? I'm just used to dogs- who don't ever want to be in their cage!

Sound like they would be happy to me! Big cage, cuddles, veg...

You don't have to carry them round the house for them to be happy, they'd probably get anxious when they needed to pee or poop anyway.

Lots of space and attention. You sound like an ideal cavy owner! :D I'm sure are quite happy spending most of their time in the cage.

Your boys have a very happy life.

You can train them to come into a pick up conveyance of some or other so you don't have to chase them down - an upturned house, tunnel, padded cardboard box with one end cut off etc will do. place a little veg treat in the back and let them get comfy with it first before you lift them up. I have a firm phrase said in the same melody for that, so the piggies know what's up. Lots of praise also helps!

Many piggies are not great cuddlers, they prefer to live a happy busy piggy life like you are providing.
