my little piggy doesn't have any treats so i was wondering if she would be aloud raisins. if not please may you tell me any treats that she would be aloud.thx

No, don't give her raisins.

Buy some fresh herbs and your piggy will love you. Parsley or coriander are good to start with. Mine also love basil. :)

piggys love : cucumber, peppers(any colour), carrot, cabbage, brocoli, dandelion leaves, grass, spinach, apple, pear. You can also go to your nearest pets at home and purchase woodlands dandelion feast, my piggy loves it! And he likes yogurt drops also available at pets at home. PLEASE PLEASE ensure your piggy has unlimited hay! Aswell as his nugget feed, guineapigs need alot of fiber such as hay in there diets for digestion and teeth probs.. Hope this helps :-)

I would stay away from the yoghurt/chocolate drop type treats as they are full of sugar & no good for piggies - despite what the packaging says!! Apart from the woodland/naturals herby type treat packs, a lot of the 'treat' type foods in pets at home are bad for pigs - i would never feed them to my pigs....

Ideal treat food is a piece of fresh fruit or veg - mine love the occassional small piece of apple, banana, mango etc

They love corn on the cob, especially the husk around it, seems to be a winner with mine.

Stick to fresh veg, some fruits now and again, and flowers, leaves and herbs.

There should be a list online of what is good for pigs and what to stay away from

Stay away from colourful pet shop treats. It's usually just full of sugar and all that kind of stuff.

Dried fruit, seeds, nuts, any product (including yoghurt), sugar and honey are BIG no nos and the equivalent of piggy junk food; they are a shop gimmick for humans and not

If you want to give treats, go for fresh and dried herbs, readigrass and forage mixes are much better - and frankly much better tasting to a piggy!

i am fully aware of pet shop treats sugar levels etc hence why i said i fes ditto the yogurt drops sparingly, humans should eat meat and veg as we are omnivores but we also eat deep fried foods, sweets, chocolate, foods that are 'bad' for us so i feel id be a little hypocritical if i deprived ditto of the odd couple of yogurt drops here and there seen as he so obviously loves them. And i can assure he has his nuggets unlimited amount of hay and a wide variation of fresh fruit and veg.. The odd treat isnt bad for your piggy so long as it is just the occasional treat, its never done any of my past piggys and rabbits any harm nor my current piggy ditto. My last piggy betsy was 11 when she died believe it or not my grandad bred her and me and my sister had her from 6 weeks of age, so the odd yog drop obviously isnt such a bad thing ... :-)

Please read all the replies after mine - i was not the only who pointed out that pet shop treats are bad for pigs - so feel free to quote them to and rip in to their posts also!

I also never once disputed how you treat your pigs...your pigs, your problem! i suggest to read & re-read posts in future before getting so defensive.....

For informational purposes - i choose not to indulge in deep fried fatty foods and believe in giving me, myself and my children a healthy varied diet - my pigs are my babies and provide them with the same!

i didnt mean to come across as defensive and i couldnt possibly quote every single post, I'm sorry if i caused offence but you have your opinion and i have mine. And i never said you had disputed how i care for my pigs? I was just saying that yogurt drops cannot possibly be as bad as you make out in your post as i have always allowed my pets the odd treat and it has never harmed them in anyway. I think maybe you should a step back and realise that maybe it is infact you that is being defensive? again i apologise if my post came across the wrong way as it was not at all intended that is the bad points of typing out a post and not speaking face to face with the poster as misunderstandings can easily be made.

You are right in that the written word can be taken the wrong way - however i found it odd that out of the 3-4 posts arguing that pet shop treats are no good that you decided to quote mine? I also found it rather odd that you would mention the life span of other pigs you have fed sugary treats to - in an attempt to support your own argument and rip my view on it to shreds.....

You do not need to defend what foods you feed your own pigs - however, when you advise others to do the same, then you will get people respond and put forward their views....

Your way is not always the right way.... everyone is entitled to their own opinion - where sugary treats are concerned the majority of people will disagree with your views, nothing wrong with that, like i said in my previous post they are your pigs and you can feed them what you like - just dont expect everyone else to agree with you!

FYI: My children would 'prefer' to eat an apple/orange/banana/handful of grapes to sweets and chocolate!

I will leave this thread now as i feel ive put my point of view across - any further replies will/can only been seen as an attempt to 'start' and argument - we do not agree on this subject, so i will leave the thread to get back to its original topic.

Appologies to the OP of this thread....

you are leaving this post to avoid an argument? I didnt realise we were having an argument rather a discussion regarding a difference of opinions. I quoted your post as it was the first post and had quoted my prior post. I fully understand my way is not the right way and we all have our own opinions i have never once said otherwise this is you presuming i feel that way. I do not expect anyone to agree with me i do not need support from fellow posters as i have my own opinion and a right to put forward my opinion and defend my reasons for the opinion. I do not want to carry this discussion any further but as you stated i also wanted to get my point across as i feel you are attempting to make me look like a bad and opinionated forum member and this is not the case, i actually apologised if my post caused offence etc little can be said for yourself? Again i apologise to you and i would like to apologise to the OP.. End of discussion
