Are all 120 cm cages created equal? is any brand better than another?

Hello, I am shopping around for another "spare" 120 cm indoor cage.

I have noticed that there are various makes now, whereas I think when I got my original one it was just Ferplast and Savic making them.... anyway, if you have one, which brand do you have?

Are the cheap versions on ebay... just cheap and flimsy or are they OK? There seems to be a huge price different between for example a Ferplast at £80 to an ebay cage (Rosewood) at £40.00

Is Rosewood a good brand? And if you had to choose between a Ferplast and a Liberta which would you pick?

Also... can guineapigs manage those ferplast 2 tier cages? I have seen a 120 version with a ramp in P@H but the ramp looked very steep, and I didnt know if piggies would use it?

I also wish that there were more 150cm cages around. They seem like gold dust with a high price tag!

I cant use cubes and correx very easily, as I have an enthusiastic toddler ;) and a very friendly labrador who would like to get in and wash the piggies if he could!

Thanks in advance :)

I got one from little pet warehouse, own brand rabbit 120 and its bigger then Ferplast, Rosewood and Skyline brand cages in length and width and a lot sturdier. I have a ferplast and a skyline and a rosewood and the ones from little pet warehouse are by far the best in my opinion.

Regards the 2 tier they can get up them but need adapting as they can fall if your not careful going up the ramp. Mine all use ramps in C&C cages but the ramps are steeper in the 120 cages. My friend has a similar problem with a toddler and a dog but she has a C&C on a table which has worked for her :)

Thank you for the recommendation - I will check out Little Pet Warehouse!

Avoid Argos 120 cheap cage, we brought one a few years ago and it was around 110 in length not 120 as advertised, took it back got a refund and got a trusty ferplast 120

Oh thanks for that Sport Billy - what a rip off! how on earth did they measure that so inaccurately! I had a similar problem when trying to make a bin cage for my hamster - I wanted to meet the RSPCA recommended measurements and found that often the dimensions of the storage boxes were not as advertised.

Ooh, hope I have done the right thing! I have ordered one from Little Pet Warehouse :)

I have 3 and can't fault them from little pet warehouse, larger then the ferplast 120 that sits above it and seems sturdier as thicker metal. Saw some in the range in Nottingham yesterday that looked ok too :)

Ooh - where The Range, Degu Rock? I dont know that place but people keep telling me about it! I didnt realise they sold animal stuff too.

Its on lady bay retail park near hobbycraft near the city ground. They have a pet section sell food, cages, accessories etc.... I didn't realise they sold 120cm cages till yesterday as nipped in, didn't get a good look at the quality though but seemed ok :) There is also one at Chesterfield but its a smaller store and don't carry as much stock :)

Ooh thanks :) I have to go that way tomorrow morning (son's swimming lesson) so we may just make a detour down Meadow Lane!

Although i’m not a big fan of store bought cages, i have used them and i keep them for spares, my favourite would always have to be a liberta. I’ve had both the 100 and 120, and they’re just faultless, great sturdy quality and can easily be stacked without looking wobbly! I’ve loved both my liberta cages, and completely loathed my ferplast that i once used!

The base is harder to clean as its not smooth :) pretty sure thats why twiams didnt like it. I love my ferplasts mainly do to access and they're not that hard to clean theyre just not as easy as a totally smooth one, differen strokes for different folks :D

I agree about the ferplast comment regards the base. A pain to clean. But access is faultless :))
