So i posted a design of my cage and now I'm just looking into the price :^- for the amount of grids i need i will probably, depending on where i get them from be spending about £35-£40 and then i need to buy all the plastic, correx-y stuff (if anyone knows where to get a decent amount {4x2 cage, and a 2x1 kitchen area} of the correx cheap, in the UK, around birmingham or anywhere off the inernet please also let me know :)) It looks as though in total I'm going to be spending around £60-80 :/ Its a bit expensive when i could just buy 120cm cage for £40

I used to have a C&C - but swapped to cages when i found out my male was actually a female.

When i built mine i used this site for my correx:

http://www.teacratepackaging.co.uk/correx-board-p-88.html

Each sheet is 200cm x 100cm in size and they are 2mm thick. The problem i found was that i needed to 'double' up the correx as it was so flimsy - if you can get a hold of 4-5mm correx that would be much better.

I would estimate you'd need at least 3 sheets if you were 'doubling' up and 2 without (my maths is not to be trusted so make sure you measure before ordering) - i think postage was around £5.00 (but i'm sure some will confirm this)

You will also need some strong tape to secure the correx - i would also use cable ties as well as the grid connectors.

Ive taken a look at your cage design - it looks very good - you'll need at least 2+ packs of grids to accomplish it. When i built my C&C i bought them for £14.99 per pack and only paid £5.95 postage no matter how many boxes i ordered. Having a look at prices now they have gone up a lot.

I suppose it all depends on what you prefer - if you like the look of a C&C and want ultimate flexibility then i say build one - they are easily extended and look great.

Good luck in whatever you decide :)

Just for reference - a 4x2 C&C offers loads more space than an 120cm sized cage

I was looking at doing a C&C cage, but as I also needed a "roof" and to be able to fasten it securely to stop the kids opening it, and I wanted it off the ground (our last piggies drowned in a flood so I had a real thing about wanting it at least a few inches off the floor) it was going to be quite expensive in total, pricing up stuff I worked out it would probably cost me over £100 so ended up buying a 120 cage with a built in stand instead

Sodapops sums it up, however I got a 8ft x 4ft sheet of correx from my local sign makers for £15.00
If you look up signmakers you will find dozens in your area, they all quoted me £15.00.

And the C&C cage does have much more space for the piggies which they will love. Also its adaptable and can be move, modified and changed around.

I love C&C.
I also have 2 Ferplast 120cm for emegency fosters, so I can see the difference in size.

The shop bought cage measures 120cm x 59cm
C&C 4 grids by 2 grids = 150cm x 75cm approx plus your 2 grid by 1 grid kitchen area on top

So forgive me if I'm wrong as its getting late zzz
The c&c gives about 13 sq ft of space
And the 120cm gives under 8 sq ft

The few sign-malkers i phoned all quoted me between £50-£90 per sheet!. The cheapest one was £4.58 per 8ft x 4ft x 5mm - but i had to order in multiples of 10 and i would have to pay around £18.00 shipping with protective packaging or £8.00 shipping un-protected!

I'm thinking i don't live in the right city.....

Really? I only live in a town, And there is a small business in the next village called Jubb signs, they even cut it to the size I wanted and I collected it in my car. I didnt buy the 5mm it's only about 2mm as I found it adequate for a base as my first C&C I built I used the grids under the Correx. Maybe try the small sign makers businesses if they are wanting to sell you it in multiples maybe they are a large buisness? ?/

Thanks guys :) i meant to post the design in this thread as well but forgot :))

I suppose if its a bigger its obviously worth the extra money - and i could build it up in a few weeks (i get £10 a week dinner money) so i use that< I'm going to save £200 so i should definetle be able to afford it :)

You can get correx from local signmakers (see your yellow pages) and will have to pay only for what you need, as most will cut it to size for you. It's worth ringing around, as prices can vary!

I paid only £30 for all my correx, and that includes a big extra hay tray under the tv cabinet and a couple of extra mezzanine floors.

Some signmakers will give you offcuts of correx for free. I got a fairly sizeable chunk that used to be part if an ad in the local football stadium! Wicked do the grids but I don't think they're any cheaper than Amazon or eBay...
