So as I mentioned, Coco developed an ulcerated eye. I have to apply eye drops but have never done it before. Could someone direct me where I put them please? 🤷🏾‍♀️

I tend to put it near the top of the eye so it has chance to spread downwards when they blink.

I have a pig who needs eye drops daily. I set him on my lap, turn his head, and let the drop go right on his eye. He has paralysis on that side of his face, so I don't have to fight blinking.

We usually do eyedrops by piggy daddy holding Tallulah against his chest side on with the eye facing me, then I gently pull her ear back and up to keep her eye open and just drip straight onto the eye from above. Then a treat because as they chew the eye goes up and down and helps spread the drops over the eye surface :)

I hold them in my lap and also go in from the top - I find piggy will stare right at me without blinking so I cup the head and use my thumb on the nose fur to hold the lid open at the top just by gently pressing upwards until you see a bit of white eye. Then I squeeze the drop at the top and let go so they blink - unless it's George who just freezes with his mouth open so you have to stroke his cheek and wait for a bit! I don't go near the ears because if I tickle by mistake it makes them shake their head 😄

They have a bit of a “blind spot” from behind, so I always hold the piggy on my lap facing away from me then approach from behind and above as the others have suggested. And I then use my finger and thumb to gently push the lids together to make sure that the drop gets dispersed over the eyeball. It gets easier with practice.

My vet suggested putting a drop on my finger ( gloved), and gently administer the eye drop that way.
It worked with Micah who would close his eyes tightly as soon as the dropper came anywhere near.
A bribe is also essential

I didn’t like using contacts so wouldn’t feel too confident applying with a finger! I’ll have a bribe at the ready.

Leela has on-and-off eye issues... she is pretty good with eye drops. I set her on my lap facing away from me, put my left hand on either side of her eye to hold her head steady, and put the drop in kind of from above.
