I give my guinea pigs Apple branches a couple times a week and I gave them skinnier ones and they both ate them completely-can’t find them anywhere in cage. Is this okay?

Yes that’s absolutely fine. The ones to avoid are branches from stone fruits such as plums. They obviously like them 🙂

Might be a daft question but are they just twigs from an apple tree? I have several apple trees in the garden can I just snip off a small twig?

Not daft at all. Yes, they are. I just use prunings from my tree, give it a bit of a wash, cut off the leaves (you don’t want them eating too many of them) and then give it to piggies. Mine love them.

Thank you, when it eventually stops raining I may try them with a couple. 🙂

I’ll have to do the same too...once it’s stopped raining 🙄 the neighbours have an apple tree that leans into our garden.

I just have this picture of you slipping out under cover of darkness to hack branches off the neighbours apple tree :bal:

But in all seriousness fresh branches are a wonderful treat for piggies.
Just make sure they have not be sprayed or chemically treated in any way.
My lot love apple, mulberry, hazel, willow and pear.

I could slip out under darkness as there are no lights apart from the sparsely spaces ones out front....🤣🤣 but I don’t have to sneak about, they’re ok with us trimming it as well 🤷🏾‍♀️ 😁 we have a plum tree in the garden, it’s a pity they can’t have those ones.

Make sure there's no big lumps of bird poo on them either, pigeons sit on the branches of my apple tree & leave their calling card sometimes! Yeuk!

Break off any affected branches/twigs.... Bird poo can carry parasites in it, don't want your piggies eating it!

But my girls do like apple twigs as a treat :)

Apple, pear and willow are safe too feed; but please be aware that the leaves are high in calcium.

Stone fruit and their wood should be avoided.
