I was thinking about getting this cage -- http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-rabbit+100/product-is-24668 but it's the ramp I'm most worried about. Do guinea pigs ever learn to use them (I've heard some don't)? How would I teach them how to use it? I was thinking of running a tunnel down the ramp so every time they want to go up or down it, they would just have to run through their tunnel and wouldn't feel scared when looking down. Something like this maybe -- http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-tunnel/product-is-20337

Anyone who has this cage got any tips? Would the tunnel idea work?

I do have this cage but the ramp is so steep i couldn't get them to use it. so now i use it as two seperate cages for single rescue pigs.

Your best bet is to go and see the cages themselves. It's alot easier to judge ramps and things from a close distance. Rather than through pictures.
I find it hard to trust some of these pictures. They can be wrong or hard to judge.

If the ramp is too steep, then the pigs won't use it.

The tunnel idea might work. In all honesty...I've been toying with putting a tunnel on my ramp, to see how it goes.
I think the piggies would feel more secure.

But obviously, the cages are expensive so it's not really so good for "trial and error"

I'm more of a C&C person, I find that the petstore cages don't leave much room for improvisation, along with other things.
So if this is your first piggy adventure, then I'll be cheeky and suggest you look into "Cubes and Corroplast" cages. AKA: C&C cages.
They're actually cheaper than pet store cages, if you ebay for the items.

Sorry. Just a suggestion.

you should make sure that you can easily get into the cage to get your animals out.
my guineas have an outside run which has a ramp to a sheltered area and they wouldnt go up or down it so i had to tempt them up with their favourite foods and walk them up by holding their backside up so that their front legs did the walking. now they run up and down when they want to :)

I already have seen it. I was actually looking at it Pets at Home the other day debating whether to buy it or not. The ramp is pretty steep in real life which is why I thought maybe putting a tunnel down the ramp would work and if I get it to look to them as if it's not a big drop when they're looking down -- they'll just see the tunnel. And they do like running in and out of tunnels anyways.

Unless there's a way I can make the ramp less steep...?

Also does it make a difference in how old the pigs are that makes them more/less likely to use the ramp? I was thinking that maybe the older they are the less keen they will be to start using it especially if they haven't used ramps before. The pigs I want to put in there are nearly 3.

Thanks anyways. I think I'll think about it a bit more.

I personally think it depends on each pig and thier personality. Most of my pigs have adapted well to the ramp, but my neurotic pig struggles with it but is gradually getting used to it and one of my pigs in the girly herd always hesitates before coming down it so is alwayas the last one down, all the others whizz up and down and some even jump from about half way, guinea pigs can actually be quite agile. I do think the ramp on your cage though looks quite narrow and steep.

i thought the ramp looked a bit steep and if they and wet feet from standing in there wee they could slip off

also if they have a bad experience with the ramp they may not use it again.

It does look a little steep, but it could be the angle or ratio of the photo - but as you said you've seen it in real life so you'd be the best judge of its steepness!
I'd be inclined to put some sort of 'sides' on the ramp to prevent them slipping off if you do decide to go with cage.
I've got a C&C and the boys didn't venture up the ramp into the hayloft for quite a while until we tried to catch them and they ran up there in fright! Now they use the ramp and upper level fairly equally with the rest of the cage.
I guess it depends on your piggie - you could tempt them up with treats!

I have heard that piggies can fall off the ramps in these cages quite easily and get hurt.
The piggie associated with the story I heard actually had to be PTS because of her injuries!
I threw the ramp part in the bin and pile lots of hay in the cage so they can burrow under.
